A scholar and a polyglot, Professor Hart will share his inspiring academic journey with the audience. He received his Ph.D. in Sanskrit from Harvard University. Having mastered Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, and Tamil enabled him to argue for Tamil as one of the classical languages. Tamil was formally accorded the status in 2004, along with long with Chinese, Sanskrit, Arabic, Greek, and Latin. In 2015, he was recognized by the Government of India with the fourth highest civilian honor, “Padma Shri,” for his relentless pursuit of a language he fell in love with.
